As a Chester County native and current resident, I proudly began my teaching career with CASD in 2005 at the 9/10 Center; CAIHS. My collegiate training in Spanish, Latin American Studies and Educational Leadership includes work at Albright College, the University of South Carolina, West Chester University, and most recently, Immaculata University. Teaching Spanish is my talent. I am also blessed to be a wife and mother of two. My hobbies include world travel, bee keeping, gardening, reading, camping and tactical training. 

My professional goal is to provide a user friendly approach to language acquisition, with a focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking. Ultimately, I wish to engage your student in the life-long process of learning a new language. This process requires the development of effective communication skills, respect for cultural differences, opportunities to wrestle with the target language in verbal communication and the application of "language laws" and vocabulary.

Currently, I work at South Brandywine Middle School, and I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the content of Spanish I. Middle school students attend 90 days of classroom instruction, annually. After three years of middle school curriculum, the desired result is an final exam average of 85%. For students who achieve this goal, they may enroll in Spanish II as a freshman at CASH. The rigorous and complex nature of our middle school calendar pushes the world language learner to prioritize and self-regulate their study of Spanish. Unlike an elementary student, the middle student must discover their personal strengths and methods for learning through a process of failure, revision, experimentation and guidance. I will provide opportunities for your child to grow and explore their abilities to become a self-sufficient learner.

Unfortunately, our saturated social media culture does not nurture face-to-face communication, and I wish to help your student become more comfortable with social communication in Spanish. We will engage in class presentations, unit projects, classroom dialog, text analysis, cultural research, current event discussion and various listening/writing activities. 

At the high school level, I recommend two or three years of world language study for students who wish to pursue collegiate studies. For students gifted in the language arts, I recommend consideration of the AP Language path.
